Disapproved vs suspended in Google Merchant Center
Item-level disapproval is not the same as an account suspension. Google’s published scopes and next steps — and why the distinction matters when you buy a store.
Merchants say “my GMC is down” for two different states. One is product-level: specific offers are disapproved and do not serve. The other is account-level: the Merchant Center account is in a warning period or is suspended, and Shopping surfaces can be limited or disabled across the account.
Disapproved (item-level)
Shopping ads policies say Google may disapprove violating Shopping ads so they do not serve. The rest of the catalog can still be eligible. The work is to fix the offer, the landing page, or the attribute that failed, then request a review of that issue.
Warning or suspended (account-level)
For most policy violations Google sends a warning email and shows the issue under Needs attention, with 7 or 28 calendar days to fix. Products may continue to appear with limited visibility during that window. If violating products are removed during the warning, Google says the account is automatically reviewed at the end. If the window ends unresolved, the account may be suspended.
Egregious issues — misrepresentation is the named example — may get no warning. The account is suspended on detection. A suspension does not expire. It stays until Google reinstates the account.
When you evaluate a store, ask: are individual SKUs disapproved, is the account in a warning, or is the account suspended? The next step and the inherited risk are not the same.

If some products are disapproved, is the Merchant Center account suspended?
Not necessarily. Shopping ads policies say a violating offer can be disapproved so it does not serve. Account suspension is a separate, account-level action described on the warnings-and-suspensions page. Ask which state the account is actually in.
Do I inherit disapprovals when I buy the store?
You inherit the website, the feed, and the Merchant Center account as transferred. Item-level issues stay until the data or landing pages are fixed. An account-level warning or suspension stays until Google reviews it. Neither times out because the store changed hands.
Does a listing on GMC Marketplace tell me the account is suspended?
Sellers may flag that a GMC was previously reinstated. That is a seller-submitted field, reviewed by admin, not a live Google status feed. Confirm the current Merchant Center state in due diligence before you send money.
