Sold-store methodology

This page explains how public comps on /sold-stores and /market-reports are built. Last reviewed 20 August 2026. The rules below are stable; the underlying deals update as sales complete.

What qualifies as a completed sale

A listing appears in the public sold dataset when its public status is sold and sold_at is on or after 2026-03-17 UTC. That cutoff excludes a bulk import of historical rows that are not comparable to marketplace deals closed on the current process.

Cancelled or voided deals do not stay in the sold dataset. Off-market or removed listings with no public value are not included.

Asking price versus completed price

Asking price is the last public asking price on the listing. Completed price is the figure recorded on the deal when Sale Agreed was marked, if that figure was entered.

Totals labelled “completed prices” sum only rows with a recorded completed price. We do not substitute asking price into those totals. Rows without a completed price still appear as comps (niche, country, days on market) with sale price shown as not available.

What is verified

Sale status and, when present, the admin-recorded completed price come from the deal record. Monthly profit bands and other listing financials are seller-provided unless a listing page says otherwise. They are not independently audited by GMC Marketplace. GMC age and platform are listing fields reviewed when the listing was approved.

Currencies

Each comp keeps its listing currency (USD, EUR or GBP). Headline totals on the sold-stores page currently add completed prices in the currency stored on the listing without converting. We do not calculate ratios across currencies. If a conversion is added later, the source currency and conversion date will be stated here.

Days to sale

Days on market is the number of days from the listing becoming public (or created, if no public timestamp) to Sale Agreed or sold_at. The published median ignores samples with no positive duration, caps samples above 90 days, and ignores sold dates before 2026-02-21 so a one-time import does not flatten the median.

Privacy

Public comps do not include buyer identity, seller identity, domain names, chat contents, agreements or payment details. Individual sold listing pages remain public for market comparison and use the same privacy rules for structured data and social cards.

Limitations

  • Not every sold listing has a recorded completed price.
  • Seller-provided profit and advertising figures can be incomplete or inconsistent. Derived claims such as ROAS and payback are suppressed when they are not responsible to calculate.
  • Past sale prices do not predict what a similar store will sell for, or how it will perform after transfer.
  • Google, Shopify and other platforms decide future account status. Buyer Protection covers the transaction and handover, not future advertising results.
